Field Dispatches

Dr. Argelian Vance & Barnaby

A field naturalist and his Wire Fox Terrier write from real places — plants, maps, a rival always nearby. Vance is warm and a little scattered; Barnaby is the comic partner who still saves the day.

What arrives in the envelope

We write the pages, print them, and mail them.

The letter

That month’s chapter, written to your child by name. Printed on paper and sent in the post.

Notes from the field

A short write-up — a place, a fact, a diagram — the correspondent’s own notes for the month.

A challenge

Something to try at home with supplies you can find around the house. Pencil, paper, a bowl, a walk outside.

Write-back (Correspondence tier)

Mail your child’s letter, or photograph it and email it. A short personal reply goes out with the next month’s mailed issue.

Quick answers

What ages?

Written for 7–12. Stronger young readers and older kids who still like a story both do well.

Are the letters handwritten?

No. We write them, then print and mail them. They are real paper in a real envelope — not a handwriting replica.

Do you send extra items?

The envelope is the letter, notes, and a challenge that uses supplies you already have. No toys or trinkets.

More than one line?

Yes. The stories never cross. Two lines cost 2× the chosen tiers, minus 5%.

What is Correspondence?

$19.98/month or $198.90/year. Your child writes back: mail the letter, or photograph it and email it. A short personal reply is printed and mailed with the next issue.

Payment?

Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, or card via Stripe. Choose one on the form. We email you the payment request or link — we don’t charge you on this website. First letter free; billing starts with the second.
